The Playspace Society Variety Show

at St James Church, 235 Adelaide Road, Newtown
Playspace, Newtown childcare centre par excellence, presents a stellar musical soiree in the intimate surrounds of the historic St James Church.

Featuring the glittering talents of The Yoots! Community Orchestra, Samuel Flynn Scott, Toby Laing, Bret McKenzie, Mara TK, Jessie Moss, Rio Hemopo plus very special guest DJ Extra Dad (aka Lord Echo).

Supporting community childcare and education for under-3s, the Playspace Society Variety Show promises to be a triumph

About Samuel Flynn Scott: Wellington-based vocalist, guitarist with the Phoenix Foundation. Released solo album The Hunt Brings Us Life in 2006. Nominated for two 2007 bNets: Best Pop Song, Best Vocalist.

About Mara TK: Wellington-based singer, musician. Member of Electric Wire Hustle. Son of blues legend Billy TK. Soulful muthafucka.

About Rio Hunuki- Hemopo: Rio Hunuki-Hemopo paid his musical dues playing bass and singing alongside Warren Maxwell (Little Bushman) and Riki Gooch (Eru Dangerspiel) in seminal NZ band Trinity Roots.

Currently producing a debut solo album with Mu, Rio is also a Red Bull Academy tutor, has jammed with all manner of NZ's finest musicians and was also a bro-vocalist for Freddy's UK/Europe Fantastic Voyages Tour 2007 and bassist for Breaks Co-Op. - Amplifier.co.nz

About Lord Echo aka Mike Fabulous: Some background... Mike Fabulous started releasing solo tunes in the early 2000s, on various compilations like Loop Select 002. He's one of the founding members of Wellington reggae band the Black Seeds, who have released about half a dozen albums to date over their 10 year existence. Mike also produced their latest studio album, Solid Ground, which gained release in the US on Easystar Records. They also did an extensive US tour to support its release.

The Black Seeds have become a regular on the European festival circuit over the last 5 years, making steady inroads into Europe/UK markets. Bret McKenzie was also in the Black Seeds, before his other band, Flight of the Conchords, got busy with some tv show -cribbed from Dubdotdash.blogspot.com
