PAST EVENT
The Troubles are New Zealand's premiere contemporary jazz group.
They are led by John Rae, a drummer and composer originally from Edinburgh. John is one of Scotland’s best known and loved jazz musicians who has been living in New Zealand for the past five years. John has had a career playing drums and composing alongside some of the world’s best, as well as leading his own Celtic inspired jazz groups.
Lucien Johnson is the rising star of Pacific jazz who has recently returned from living in France. As well as playing sax in The Troubles, Lucien is, along with John, the co-composer of the group's music. Lucien has toured in far-flung places such as India, Haiti and Brazil.
They are joined by bass player Patrick Bleakley, a stalwart of legendary Kiwi bands such as Blerta and the Jonathan Crayford Trio. Patrick is a major player in the New Zealand music scene and has been for over twenty years.
Also in The Troubles are the string section of Tristan Carter, Charley Davenport and Andrew Filmer who together help to create a unique sound that is rarely heard in jazz.
Once we add the multi sax playing of Dan Yeabsley and the trombone playing of Nick Van Dijk, it's easy to hear why The Troubles are being hailed as one of the best jazz groups to come out of the Pacific, ever!
The Troubles play high energy jazz. Its pulsating vitality and humour make for an exhilarating and compelling concert experience.
During 2012 The Troubles will release the much anticipated debut CD to coincide with a world tour that will include Australia, Hong Kong, New York, London, France, Spain, Edinburgh, Germany and Asia.
