PAST EVENT
Thursday19 February 2009
Dan Deacon (US), High Places (US)
at Bodega, 101 Ghuznee Street, Central Wellington
Cribbed from Wikipedia: "Dan Deacon is famed for his live shows. Shunning the stage, Deacon performs from within the audience, his musical devices being set up on a low table, and surrounded by the crowd. His live performances involve constant audience participation, often requiring the attendees to perform physical tasks and games en masse during the songs, like opening a big circle and ask two people to dance in it."
More Wiki-ness: "Since its inception, High Places has created a signature sound out of using bass-heavy, yet crisp beats, lilting vocal melodies, syncopated rhythmic lines performed on folk percussion instruments, guitar duets turned into treated samples, and percussive lines created from the manipulation of household objects. The duo has an 'exquisite corpse' style of songwriting where they exchange ideas back and forth, challenging one another’s expectations."
Ed. Note: Uh-oh, another one of those gigs where if you don't go mental-balls like a complete winner, you're a complete loser. OK, maybe not a *complete* loser, but no better than, like 5th place... for which you'd get something like a participation ribbon, but no trophy. No trophies for 5thers!
