The Hot Grits

: THG play deep funk, soul and afrobeat. Think Meters-style struts, super-fast jump-funk, churning afrobeat and soul. The overall sound is groovy and sweet--energetic, but never too smooth. The band's aim is to get people dancing.

From the promoter: "The Hot Grits released their long awaited debut full-length album It's Too Drunk To Be This Early on Monkey Records in early May. Following an 8 date North Island tour in May and three gigs on the Monkey Magic tour, the Grits are on the road again in August with a 13 date tour that will see this dynamic 11 piece afro soul funk band bringing their infectious, irresistibly danceable sound to bars and clubs nationwide."

: Legendary NZ hip hop group formed in 1992. Lyrics focus on Māori issues, local politics. Have supported The Fugees, Public Enemy, Ice T, Spearhead, Ben Harper, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Del the Funky Homosapien, Body Count. They have one album entitled Kaupapa Driven Rhymes Uplifted (K.D.R.U).

Dam Native won Best Group, Best Male Vocalist at the 1996 New Zealand Music Awards. In the same year, they won Best Video at the Flying Fish awards for their single "Behold My Kool Style."
